So Much More Than Hockey
Founded in 2006 and initially called The Guns & Roses, The London Royals started out as a mixed club with training on Sundays. From there we have grown exponentially and now have three men’s league teams, one women’s league team, one mixed social team, one men’s development team and one women’s development team. There really is something for everyone, regardless of ability or gender!
As the UK’s one and only LGBTQ+ hockey club, we value being inclusive of our players and creating a friendly environment for adults to play hockey. We know sport isn’t always welcoming to LGBTQ+ players so we aim to provide a safe and inclusive space for everyone.
Fun on and off the pitch!
At our club, we don’t just play hockey. We are also just as active off the pitch with many social events being organised throughout the year.
We have members who, through injury or busy lives, cannot play any longer or as often as other members but who can be just as actively involved in the club socially. Everyone is welcome to come have a boogie with us!
Royals on Tour
Every year, we organise one domestic and one international tour. Tour consists of seeing new and old faces, playing some fun and flirty hockey, and lots of fun. An amazing opportunity to meet new people and play some hockey in exciting new places!
Our domestic tour happens after our league has ended in April. We invite local clubs to play an afternoon of hockey with us and then have a chance to explore a new city over the weekend!
Our international tours are part of Europe’s largest LGBTQ+ sports event, the Eurogames. Every year, a different city in Europe hosts this incredible tournament. Last year, the Royals travelled to Bern and in 2024 we will all be going to Vienna!
Pride Cup
We also organise Pride Cup, a hockey tournament held annually during Pride month which invites LGBTQ+ players and allies to come together and celebrate the diversity in our hockey community.
Pride Cup offers an accessible and welcoming space for LGBTQ+ players to play hockey and meet new people. People do not have to be part of our club to play in one of our teams and we invite several local hockey clubs to join us for the day. Whether a complete beginner or experienced player, we welcome everyone!
London Pride Parade
Every year, the London Royals walk in the London Pride Parade with over 30,000 participants and around 600 other LGBTQ+ groups. This is a beautiful day of celebration and protest which is open to all our members to join.
We love representing everything the LGBTQ+ community stands for and are happy to be visible in this parade!
